Magic eden

Magic eden is the Solana Gate for NFT Purchase, Ownership, and Resale

Magic eden is a Solana-only marketplace workflow in which the connected wallet, SOL balance, and selected order mode determine whether an NFT purchase settles, appears under the buyer’s address, and becomes eligible for resale. The former Ethereum, Polygon, and Bitcoin marketplace surfaces no longer provide a checkout path, so a wallet application’s other accounts do not expand current coverage. Buyers should enter through a Solana account, choose one item and action, approve the wallet request, inspect the on-chain owner, and later list or transfer that same asset.

The Wrong Network Selection Ends the Workflow Early

One wrong network selection stops the purchase before ownership changes, because the active Magic Eden marketplace accepts Solana assets and SOL rather than Ethereum or Bitcoin inventory. Select the Solana account before opening the item page, then compare its displayed address with the address inside Phantom or Solflare.

A multi-chain wallet presents several balances, yet each blockchain account has its own ledger and signing context. One SOL equals 1,000,000,000 lamports, and the selected address must hold enough SOL for both the displayed purchase amount and network execution. A Solana public key occupies 32 bytes before base58 encoding, so comparing the opening and closing characters is useful only after copying the full address. Phantom and Solflare expose that key directly, while a Ledger-backed account exposes it through the connected wallet interface. The checkout request should name the same account that the item page shows.

An ETH, POL, or BTC balance visible beside SOL does not fund this checkout path. The item page, connection prompt, and wallet approval must converge on one Solana signer.

The One-Chain Marketplace Gate

One active chain now governs Magic Eden marketplace checkout: Solana supplies the wallet address, payment asset, transaction record, ownership state, and eventual resale path for each NFT. Magic Eden still exposes the Solana Marketplace, Packs, and Lucky Buy, but a direct first-position purchase belongs in the Marketplace. Packs and Lucky Buy use different execution modes; neither converts an EVM or Bitcoin balance into SOL. Current chain selection therefore has one acceptable outcome: a funded Solana account attached to the item page.

Can I Use an Ethereum Wallet for a Solana Purchase?

One Solana account is required at checkout, even when the same wallet application also exposes Ethereum, Polygon, Base, or Bitcoin accounts beside it in its interface.

Phantom and Solflare each expose Solana accounts, and a Ledger device can authorize one through a compatible wallet interface. The account selected in the connection prompt becomes the signer; balances in adjacent chain accounts remain separate. Account balances do not pool across Solana addresses either. If SOL sits under a second public key, move it before checkout or reconnect with that funded account. Marketplace login records the connected profile, while the wallet provider’s recovery method remains the route back to the signing key.

Fixed Price, Item Offer, and Collection Offer

Three purchase modes matter on the Solana marketplace: a fixed-price Buy Now order, an item offer, and a collection offer tied to eligible inventory on Magic Eden.

Buy Now targets one listed NFT at its displayed terms. The item detail page supplies the asset, collection, seller order, and total transaction summary before the connected wallet receives the approval request. Settlement begins immediately after approval.

An item offer names one NFT without accepting its listed price. Magic Eden sets the minimum offer at 50% of that item’s Buy Now price. The default expiry is 7 days, with 1-day, 3-day, 1-month, and custom periods available during submission.

A collection offer targets eligible assets within a collection rather than reserving one token. Magic Eden escrow supports up to 100 offers from one shared pool of SOL. Trait selection narrows the acceptable inventory when the collection exposes compatible attributes.

Use Buy Now when the objective is a specific listed asset and immediate ownership confirmation. Offers introduce expiry, escrow balance, and seller acceptance, so they form a longer workflow with a separate withdrawal step.

The Three-Stage Purchase Record

Three records carry the workflow from intent to a resale-ready asset: the connected address, the purchase signature, and the asset identifier shown after settlement on Solana.

Stage Backup or Recovery Standard
Connect a Solana account BIP39 recovery where supported, or the hardware wallet’s documented key backup
Approve the purchase Ed25519 transaction signature saved as the execution record
Confirm and prepare resale Asset address paired with the current owner address

A transaction signature is a 64-byte Ed25519 signature, and Solscan or Solana Explorer uses its encoded value as the lookup key. A Solana transaction is capped at 1,232 bytes, and its recent blockhash must remain within the newest 151 blockhashes to qualify for processing. That window covers transaction admission, not the lifetime of the asset or listing. If the wallet request expires before submission, Magic Eden builds a fresh request with a new blockhash. Saving the successful signature gives you one stable pointer to instructions, account changes, and final execution status.

Keep the signature beside the asset address rather than beside an image filename. Media presentation changes independently, while the transaction and asset identifiers provide the reliable hand-off record.

How Do I Confirm the NFT Reached My Wallet?

Two checks confirm ownership without relying on the marketplace banner: the transaction must succeed, and the asset owner field must resolve to your Solana address, as described in Magic eden walkthrough.

Solana exposes 3 commitment levels: processed, confirmed, and finalized. A processed result reflects a node’s observed block, confirmed reflects a block voted on by a supermajority of stake, and finalized reflects maximum lockout. Solscan and Solana Explorer display the transaction signature, execution status, involved accounts, and balance changes. The marketplace inventory view relies on indexing, so its card can refresh after the chain has already recorded ownership. The chain record remains the deciding state.

Match the item’s mint or asset identifier against the purchased listing, then inspect its owner. A successful transaction attached to another asset does not confirm the intended purchase; both identifiers must describe the accepted asset under your address.

Ownership Lives in the Solana Asset Record

Four supported Solana NFT forms shape what Magic Eden displays after settlement: standard NFTs, programmable NFTs, Metaplex Core assets, and compressed NFTs inside a connected wallet.

Each form stores ownership differently. Metaplex Core records an asset in 1 account, while a Token Metadata NFT uses at least 3 accounts for the mint, metadata, and token holding state. An SPL Token NFT mint uses a supply of 1 and 0 decimal places; its token account connects the mint to the holder. A programmable NFT adds rule-aware transfer behavior under Token Metadata. A Bubblegum compressed NFT occupies a hashed leaf in a Merkle tree and needs a Digital Asset Standard indexer to resolve its owner and proof. These are different state layouts, even when Magic Eden renders each item with the collection card.

For verification, use the mint address for Token Metadata, the asset account for Metaplex Core, and the asset ID plus Merkle proof for Bubblegum. Arweave or IPFS media does not replace that ownership record. The resale transaction must address the identifier that matches its standard.

What Changes When I Relist the Asset?

One signed listing transaction changes the market state while the NFT remains associated with your wallet until a buyer completes the corresponding sale on Solana.

Open My Items, select the collection and purchased asset, enter the listing value, review the item details, and approve the wallet request. The resulting order tells Magic Eden that the current owner accepts a sale under those terms. It does not create a second NFT or move the media. The original asset identifier continues through the listing and eventual transfer.

After confirmation, the item page displays the active listing for buyers. Canceling that listing removes the sale order while preserving the same owner state. A later listing requires another wallet approval, keeping the resale path tied to the original Solana account.

Cancellation, Expiry, and Escrow Cleanup

Five expiry choices organize item offers on Magic Eden: 1 day, 3 days, 7 days, 1 month, or a custom period selected during submission by the buyer.

The 7-day period is the default, and the offer must start at 50% of the listed price. A sale or delisting does not automatically cancel an outstanding item offer. Review Item Offers Made after ownership changes, cancel any obsolete order, and inspect the escrow balance. Cancellation leaves the associated SOL in the bidding wallet by default, allowing another offer without a fresh deposit.

Withdrawal is a separate action. The Withdraw control empties the escrow balance into the connected main wallet rather than selecting individual offer amounts. Because one escrow pool supports up to 100 offers, cancel every unwanted order before adding funds again; a new deposit can reactivate eligible offers. The clean exit ends with no unwanted order and the expected balance in the main wallet.

A Clean Hand-Off From Purchase to Resale

Three completed states define a clean workflow: SOL remains available for network execution, ownership resolves on-chain, and any unwanted offer balance returns to the main wallet. Begin with the current Solana Marketplace, keep one signer active, use Buy Now for a specific listed NFT, and save the resulting signature. Match the asset identifier and owner before listing. When leaving the market, cancel the listing or obsolete offers, withdraw unused escrow, and confirm the final state under the same Solana address.

Practical questions about Magic eden

Does Magic Eden combine SOL across connected addresses during checkout?

No, Magic Eden evaluates the selected Solana address and does not merge balances from other connected accounts into one purchase. If one address holds the NFT purchase amount while another holds spare SOL, transfer the required SOL before approval or select the funded account and reopen the item. The wallet prompt identifies the actual signer, so its public key must match the address shown on the marketplace.

Can a Ledger-backed account approve a Magic Eden NFT purchase?

Yes, a Ledger-backed Solana account can approve the purchase when a compatible wallet interface exposes that account to Magic Eden. The browser wallet builds the transaction, but the Ledger device supplies the signature after showing the approval request. Keep the device on the Solana app, confirm that the public key matches the connected profile, and finish before the recent blockhash leaves the network’s processing window.

Why does a purchased NFT sometimes appear before its image loads?

The ownership record and the media arrive through different data paths, so Magic Eden can show the asset before its image finishes loading. Solana records the owner and asset state, while a marketplace indexer fetches metadata and media referenced by Metaplex Token Metadata, Metaplex Core, Arweave, or IPFS. Confirm the asset identifier and owner first; a delayed picture does not reverse a completed on-chain transfer.

Is a Magic Eden profile identical to the on-chain owner?

No, a Magic Eden profile can organize connected addresses, while the Solana asset record names one current owner address for each NFT. Profile visibility helps navigation, but it does not combine custody or change the signer that controls a listing. For Token Metadata, inspect the token holding account; for Metaplex Core, inspect the asset account; for a compressed NFT, inspect the indexed owner tied to its asset ID.

How does a rejected wallet approval affect the purchase record?

A rejected approval creates no signed purchase transaction, so Magic Eden has no settlement record to attach to the selected item. Reopen the item and request a new transaction rather than searching for ownership under the unsubmitted attempt. The replacement carries a fresh recent blockhash and produces its own signature only after approval; use that signature to track confirmation and the resulting owner state.
